The Centre for Ecological Research was established on 1 January 2012 by merging the Institute of Ecology and Botany, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (the former ALTER-Net partner), the Balaton Limnological Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the Danube Research Station of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
